Euthanasia
On hearing the term most of us
must be wondering what it means. Euthanasia is nothing but the technical or
official term for Mercy Killing. Euthanasia refers to the practice of ending to
a life to relieve him/her from pain or suffering. The work Euthanasia is
derived from the Greek and it means “Good Death“. It is commonly known as Mercy
Killing and this technique is widely followed in the case of animals. Mainly
animal are allowed to be awarded mercy killing but it was banned in the case of
Humans, but certain countries can be exempted from this. In 2004, Netherlands
(Holland) has legalized Euthanasia. Belgium, Switzerland and Thailand have come
to the verge of legalizing Euthanasia. So certain rules must be followed
to implement or practice Euthanasia.
The Rules for practicing Euthanasia are:-
1.
The disease must be incurable and the
patient must suffer acute pain.
2.
The choice to die must originate from
the patient.
3.
The patient must be in sound mental
health while taking the decision.
4.
The above factors must be confirmed by a
panel of doctors; and
5.
This must be done in the extreme cases.
Only when these conditions are
satisfied then only they can execute the option of Euthanasia or Mercy Killing. So
if a patient is suffering from a disease which does not have a cure and if the
patient does not wants to live, Can a doctor be given the power and authority
to assist the patient in doing so..?? And is India ready for legalizing
Euthanasia and will it be successful if implemented in India…?????.
